I just noticed that all of these could be the result of a basic psyche which seem to have somehow made their ways into our blood. I have come across it everywhere- in homes, in schools, in colleges, in workplaces.
I call it, "The Mother in Law syndrome"--NOPE I am not talking about my Mother- In- Law here!!! I am talking about the psyche which is best explained by that stereotypical example. The psyche which makes us treat people as we were treated. We may have been hurt, insulted, abused, exploited but when we come of power, we relish the position and hurt, insult, abuse, exploit. When at the top, either we somehow forget how we felt on the other end and automatically follow the path we were shown or we viciously inflict the same venom that was given to us and make innocents suffer *Yikes!*.
Senior students in colleges do that to their Juniors, Superiors at work do that to their not so superior colleagues, clients do that to their clients and even parents do that to their children.
May be we are all slaves to what has been shown to us, may be we have no idea how to do it differently Or maybe we are too used to and find nothing wrong in this hierarchy, so we carry out our specified roles- first be tolerant & then when its your turn, lash it out at the next innocent who walks into your clutches, Or--- May Be This Is What and How We Are.
The world will be a lot better place if we remember to think, feel, speak and act differently when we are on Top and for a moment try to remember how we had felt at the Other End. Let's not let this syndrome define Who We Are...
If you want to know what a
man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his
equals. ~J.K. Rowling
It is a curious thing but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it.~J.K. Rowling
P.S. If you think this is about you, then it only says you're guilty. Be the change! Break the cycle!
